For over 20 years SCVRD’s Information Technology Training Center has prepared and placed South Carolinians with significant physical disabilities in computer-related fields. The ITTC is a multifaceted program that allows clients to fully compete in today's technology-driven job market.

ITTC Programs
Computer Systems Technology and Programming
This 12-month curriculum prepares entry-level programmers with emphasis on the .NET framework and database skills.
Computer Aided Drafting and Design/
Geographic Information Systems
This 11-month program centers on developing entry-level CAD and GIS technicians who are proficient in AutoCAD fundamentals, and mechanical and civil design applications as well as GIS “smart” mapping.
Business Applications Plus
Trainees prepare for entry-level opportunities as office and administrative workers during this seven-month program.
Business-Oriented Applications
This program is designed around a specific company’s need for employees who are proficient in its particular applications and software. Length varies according to the needs of the trainee and employer.
Information Systems Support and Networking
This seven-month program focuses on developing entry-level computer and network technicians.
Telework
Trainees prepare to perform critical work activities from their homes through training customized for each employer’s specifications. This six-week program takes place at SCVRD’s Barrier-Free Model Home on the West Columbia campus.
Real-world Experience
Representatives of the business community who serve on our Business Advisory Council (BAC) and SCVRD staff work together to develop the ITTC’s programs.
BAC members know the specific skills required for employment in the areas of study and assume active roles in all phases of the program including course development, candidate selection, instruction, candidate progress, intern training, mentor development, graduation, job placement and follow-up.
The ITTC uses a highly selective process of screening applicants to seek out enthusiastic, ambitious trainees capable of facing the challenges of the rigorous classroom schedule designed to prepare them for job readiness in information technology field.
Other Benefits
In addition to the technical skills offered through the ITTC, students receive training in other skills necessary to succeed in the business world through SCVRD’s Center for Comprehensive Programs. The Evaluation Center, the Muscular Development Center and the Rehabilitation Technology Program all provide services as needed. The program’s modern facilities are adjacent to an 18-room, 24-bed dormitory used by trainees from across the state.
SCVRD takes pride in its Information Technology Training Center graduates and the contributions they make to their employers because of their training. Over the past 24 years, the program has put 89.1% of its graduates into competitive employment.
SCVRD’s Information Technology Training Program is the only one of its type operated within a vocational rehabilitation agency in the nation. It has won six awards from IBM and one from the US Department of Education for its exceptional job-placement rate. It was also named a finalist in the J.M. Foundation Search for Excellence for outstanding achievement among vocational programs in employability development.
Additionally, the program was selected in 1996 as one of 40 exemplary models for the Rehabilitation Services Administration’s National Conference of Effective Employment Strategies for Individuals with Disabilities.
